Power Pedals - Improve Your Riding Efficiency

Company

Welcome to Power Pedals

Power Pedals Pty Ltd was established in 2010 in Western Australia. Power Pedals is a research and development focused organisation committed to the commercialisation of an accurate, reliable and affordable pedal based force and power meter utilising proprietary technology (patent pending).

A Power Pedals compatible spindle can be designed to fit most pedal systems.

During development Power Pedals has been designed to retrofit to the Shimano SPD-SL system. We are interested in developing Power Pedals models for other pedal systems and look forward to working with pedal manufacturers to achieve this goal. Contact Us!

We are also interested in hearing from you the customer. Which pedal system do you currently ride? Would you be willing to swap pedals in order to own Power Pedals? Contact Us!

Pedal Stroke Force Profile

Power pedals measures the force vector you apply to the pedals over 120 times per second.

This short video displays a cyclist's pedal stroke in real time. The position of the bar corresponds to the position of the crank, the length of the bar indicates the amount of force applied, and the colour of the bar indicates how 'effective' that force is in propelling the cyclist forward. Solid green indicates the force is applied directly perpendicular to the crank in the direction of pedalling, solid red indicates that the force is applied directly perpendicular to the crank against the direction of pedalling (i.e. the cyclist is not pulling up on the pedal). The exact angle of the applied force therefore results in a shade of colour somewhere between green and red.

Only force applied perpendicular to the crank in the direction of pedalling generates torque and is captured as power by other power meters. All other force applied by the cyclist is ineffective at generating torque and powering the bicycle forward, this effort is not quantified by other power meters.

Power Pedals is a product that finally allows the cyclist to see the amount of ineffective force present in their pedal stroke. This amazing new tool will allow sports physiologists and cycling coaches to quantify pedalling 'technique' under real training and race conditions. Learn to pedal like the pro's!

Accurate & Reliable Power Measurement

Power Pedals measures power directly at the pedal and have a demonstrated repeatable accuracy of +/- 2% when compared to a bicycle dynamometer.

This location and accuracy gives a true representation of the power you are putting into your bike. Allowing you the best opportunity to evaluate your riding equipment, and style, in order to optimize your performance.

Easy Installation

Power Pedals are installed just like a pair of normal pedals. No need for specific alignment tools, just a 15mm pedal wrench.

A small electronics unit is attached to each crank and connected to the pedal spindle. Once more no specific procedure or tools are necessary to ensure alignment, and therefore there is no opportunity to significantly decrease the accuracy of the system.

Total additional weight less than 50g!

Self Calibrating

Power Pedals are self calibrating. Install, get on the bike, and ride at a steady cadence for a few minutes. Once the calibration procedure is complete power measurement will commence.

This calibration only needs to be completed when installing the pedals to a bike, once installed the pedals will remain calibrated until removed.
